Breaking News - Iconic Sydney Opera House Appoints Danielle Alvarez as Culinary Director

Danielle Alvarez is not only one of the most exciting young Chefs in Australia today, but just hours ago was announced as the new Culinary Director of the Sydney Opera House event venues.

This is no small feat given the venerated venue stands as the face of Australia and hosts some of the world’s most important and exclusive events including world Presidents. Trippas White, the hospitality group behind the venue also manages 35 others including Taronga Zoo, the Queen Victoria Building and the Royal Botanic Gardens, in a bid to deliver iconic experiences.

Danielle will certainly rise to the occasion if her culinary history is anything to go by. Having already authored 'Always Add Lemon ' as her first cookbook, she delivered recipes for cooks who were excited to learn new recipes, perfect old ones and create happiness in the kitchen through ingredients and good food. Her second cookbook is about to launch and is aptly named 'Recipes for a Lifetime of Beautiful Cooking'.

This young Chef certainly has the recipe of a lifetime as she looks forward to her new role at the Opera House with her debut event being an in-conversation about her upcoming book with co-author, close friend and writer Libby Travers on November 10.

Trippas White Group Chief Executive Officer Kevin Zajaz says: "Danielle cares deeply about the connection between food and culture and I can’t think of anywhere better to bring this together than arguably the world’s most recognisable cultural destination.”

Danielle explains: "I feel tremendously honoured to have some impact on the food being served at the Sydney Opera House. It is a global icon of Australian culture and my goal is to bring together people, produce and events that will further showcase all the incredible things this diverse country has to offer.”

The menus are expected to showcase Danielle’s flair with seasonality, locality and farm-to-table cooking style where she will develop curated menus for private functions in the venue’s Yallamundi Rooms, the Utzon Room and Northern Foyers.

Danielle was born into a Cuban-American family and worked in restaurants such as Napa’s French Laundry, San Francisco’s Boulettes Larder and Chez Panisse in Berkeley before moving to Australia. Since her arrival, Danielle has worked at Paddington’s Fred’s (14 Chef Hats), produced her two books and is the co-host of The Good Food Kitchen with Adam Liaw.
