McWhere

The Alpenrose Restaurant is situated in the centre of the Grindelwald Swiss Village, which most tourist itinerary's of Tasmania will have as a "Must Visit" the uniqueness of this Tamar Valley Resort, is quite astounding. The Alpenrose restaurant is built in Swiss style like the rest of the village. The dining area has a large European style fireplace , with many glass windows and French doors leading out tp a very tidy covered Al Fresco area. The setting is idyllic as you look out across a lake with an island in the centre complete with tress and a fountain. Then your eyes will lead you on to beautifully designed, immaculate Swiss chalets on the hill beyond. A very restful on "Holiday" in Switzerland ambience. The restaurant caters for breakfast, lunch, dinner. From a varied but selective menu we ordered, two, Thai Pumpkin soups from their daily specials board, also from the special board, Grilled Atlantic Salmon & prawn salad, with advacado, tomato & greens. From the menu, a Variety Seafood Platter, battered whiting flathead, prawns, salt & pepper squid, served with salad and fries, lemon & tartare sauce. All generous serves and delicious. We were tempted by their desert menu, so we finished with a Mini Pavlova with banana and mango & a passion fruit Coulis; A Strawberry Liquer Trifle, with cream. Both of these dishes were again of a generous serve and delicious. The service was personal, yet professional. We were impressed by the quality, size and price of our choices. This is a gem of a restaurant and less than 20 min from Launceston. With all the attractions the village offers, you could make it a days outing, also wonderful for children. Ideal for romantic stays, even a charming wedding chapel in the village!
