About Black Point

Park your car on Cuttlefish Drive before descending down the wooden stairs to Black Point, the world-famous breeding site of the Giant Australian Cuttlefish, Sepia apama. Each winter, thousands of these amazing relatives of the squid and octopus gather here, but their numbers are in decline while plans to industrialise the adjacent land to serve the mining industry inch forwards. Make the most of this spectacular free wildlife spectacle, before it's too late!

The Giant Australian Cuttlefish aggregation at Black Point SA is one of the most fascinating occurrences to witness. The cuttlefish are like nothing you have seen before and are a must to see in the wild. It should be on every diver, snorkeler, or wildlife lover's bucket list. As the above blurb says...the numbers are in serious decline, so mark down some time between May - August 2013 to visit. Take time to visit Tony Bramley at Whyalla Dive Services, to ensure to make the most of your cuttlefish experience.
