About Mt Grenfell Aboriginal Cave Paintings
Mount Grenfell Historic Site is an Aboriginal rock art site, about 50 kilometres from Cobar. It is an important place for its Aboriginal owners, the Ngiyampaa Wangaaypuwan people. Three main rock shelters at Mount Grenfell feature more than 1,300 examples of Aboriginal rock art. The images are well preserved examples of painting with wet pigment. Black, white, red, yellow were all used to depict human figures, mammals, reptiles, birds, linear patterns and abstracted designs.
