About Doc Hughes

Paying homage to the rich history of the building and bringing a new dining experience to Torquay, Doc Hughes on The Esplanade delivers fresh food made with passion. Nestled on the shore of Torquay’s best family beach, this former general store is named after its original owner and exudes a bright and breezy coastal vibe of white subway tiles, light wood table settings and potted greenery. On balmy days sit alfresco while devouring breaky plates of blue swimmer crab scrambled eggs, on a toasted croissant with crispy chilli, harissa aioli and herbs; or dine later on crispy pork belly, soba noodles, spring onion, soy bean salad and chilli sambal. Don’t go past beef cheeks slow-cooked in red wine, with smoked bacon, chimichurri, creamy Parmesan polenta and crispy potato for the main.

I come here all the time! My local, and best in Torquay!
Everything about Doc Hughes is exceptional! Always greeted at the gate with a smile, no matter how busy the day is, food and service is spot on.
Topped off with the best view in town with a beer in hand.
