A few words from Fatcow on James St

On glitzy new James Street pasture, Tassis Group's beloved Fatcow restaurant has reopened and Brisbane diners are reaping the rewards. The venue is a carnivore's dream, dishing up a sizzling selection of premium quality steak, seafood and seasonal produce in a highly sleek yet modest setting.

Taking over the former David Jones retail space at 10 James Street, Fatcow has been completely custom-built for purpose. Created in collaboration with Brisbane teams Clui Design and Allo Creative, the restaurant takes cues from contemporary steakhouses around the globe, flaunting dark and moody interiors with white marble counters, sheer curtains and lush greenery. Key design features include a solid marble bar, an intimate 8-seater private dining room, a temperature-controlled walk-in wine cellar, as well as a large glass window overlooking the kitchen and allowing guests to bask in the theatre of watching their steak of choice being prepared over a wood-fired grill.

Leading the kitchen behind the glass window is Head Chef Garry Newton — Chef de Partie of Fatcow's previous location on Eagle Street, with an undeniable passion for cooking meat. Helping bring the venue back with a bang, Newton has crafted a menu that combines classic dishes from the menu of the predecessor, alongside a collection of new dishes that place carefully considered emphasis on the venue's access to local and incredibly high- quality produce.

On the menu, guests are spoilt for choice, with over 16 cuts of premium beef available — all certified Halal, sourced from long-standing trusted suppliers, and expertly prepared on a parrilla grill over ironbark to deliver exceptional taste and texture. Choose from classic cuts including rib fillet, rump cap and tomahawk, or for those who take their steak a little more seriously, opt for the Signature Golden Fatcow; a 400g 150+ day grain-fed rib fillet wrapped in gold leaf; or the Wagyu Tasting Experience; an experience designed to share between two, featuring three premium cuts of steak paired with three sides of choosing..

Alongside the steak, seafood is also a major focus of the venue, and Fatcow features the only live oyster tank in Brisbane. Enjoy entrees including raw scallops with coconut dressing, chargrilled Mooloolaba king prawns in a creamy bisque or raw kingfish, or add a half of full lobster plucked fresh from a live tank to your steak for a decadent main. Fatcow also caters meticulously to dietaries - namely vegetarian and vegan - meaning everyone is welcome, no diner left behind.

Rounding off the dining experience is an impressive beverage list, featuring 300+ varieties of local and international wines, plus an array of playful and experimental cocktails proving drinks can be as artistic as they are delicious.

Brace your tastebuds and sharpen your steak knife. Whether you're celebrating an occasion or can just appreciate a quality meal, Fatcow on James St is open from 11:30am-late, 7 days a week, every day of the year (excluding Christmas Day).
