About Grano
A traditional home-style Southern Italian menu and wine list tell the story of the homeland at Grano on the corner of Horsley Drive and Canley Vale Road in Wetherill Park. This well-loved Sydney dining destination boasts a quirky vibe of graters as light fittings hanging from the ceiling, rustic exposed brick, Italian flags and black and white photos on the walls. Settle in with a glass of red and peruse a menu offering everything from pizza straight out of the wood-fired oven to pasta plates and hearty mains. Say ciao to starters of osso bucco arancini, with pecorino and sugo Pomodoro, or garlic chilli Tiger prawns and pane di casa; before spaghetti and meatballs, with parmigiano Reggiano. Perhaps pick up a slice of pizza topped with nduja, garlic and cheese, drizzled with pure honey.

Such an exquisite evening
Located at the backside of a shopping centre in a semi-industrial zone of Wetherill Park in Sydney’s West, the Italian “Grano” is a true hidden gem in the best understanding of the word. The restaurant’s outside appearance – does not at all indicate its lively, quirky, stylish, tasteful, and modern Italian interior.
This is a busy place with staff soundlessly and efficiently zoom around tables like bees. The ice-blue cocktail with coconut icing and vodka still allows you to drive home.
Our entrée, Polpo e Calamari, not only serves three people but was fresh, aesthetically prepared, eye-wateringly presented, and thoroughly appetising. The pasta in the Pasta Pappalina tasted like how Italian pasta is supposed to taste – pure Italian pleasure. Yet, pasta was surpassed by the sauce that was an utter delight.
Grano’s Tortellini Mollica provided a similar story – just this time, it was the other way around. The tortellini reminded me of high end quality of Haberfield’s Pete’s pasta, a traditional “must” for inner-west pasta lovers. Finally, the Calzone Rosso made one even more at home. This is Italian food at its best.
The entertaining as well as culinary delightful evening was rounded up with Grano’s Dolci per due. The Grano’s Dolci per due offers something for everyone and particularly in combination with the immediately served espresso. Birthday candle and staff singing was a sweet touch.
Grano’s Italian atmosphere, the authentic cuisine, and the attentive assistants, especially ‘Rocco’ made it as one of the most memorable Italian-style evenings in the western part of Sydney. If one categorises restaurants into the three groups – not bad; great, and let’s go again – Grano’s is definitely a “let’s go again” kind of place. Well done. Our compliments to the chef and not to be forgotten, the kitchen staff, and all waiters. An exquisitely executed evening for Sydney’s true foodies. Highly recommended!
