The Loft at Jam Corner - the quintessential venue for a function
I had my 50th at the Loft at Jam Corner. Everything was set up perfectly and exceeded my expectations. The staff on the night were very attentive, courteous and helpful throughout the night and certainly helped make the evening to be a very pleasant occasion. All the guests commented that the venue was lovely and raved that the food was superb. I couldn't have asked for a better evening.
Perfect Wedding Reception Location
The Loft at Jam served as the perfect venue for our intimate lunch reception. Every staff member worked so hard to make our day run smoothly and kept us up to date on our tab which enabled us to add a greater selection to our guests. The food was the absolute highlight of our wedding and Jam made sure that not a single person left hungry.
The Experience Never Ends
Reliably, my perfect dining experience commences when I am greeted at the door, seated and welcomed. The staff are generous with time, their energy and excitement for their workplace is inspiring and they are so helpful when I would like to discover something unfamiliar !
The presentation of all the meals blows my creative mind. The colours are only outdone by the flavours that are combined on the plate ... The surroundings are delightful and comfortable. I always walk out of Jam feeling happier than when I arrived. I am so grateful to the entire team !
Some things just keep getting better and better with age
Great Service, Location & Menu
Delicious, dedicated and delightful
Delicious food and well presented, it's a go to for dining!
Dedicated staff who catered to our guests allergies without fuss.
Delightful staff who made the lead up to, and during the event easy and memorable.
Thank you!
Amazing!!!
Matt and the JAM team looked after 11 guests and myself on Melbourne Cup day. We had the most delicious three course set luncheon and a 3.5 hour unlimited drink package. The staff were so friendly and helpful on the day and made everyone feel very special. It was so amazing we will back next year. If you are looking at having an event or wanting to spoil someone special JAM is the restaurant to go to as it is 5 Star...
Not JUST a culinary delight!!!
I recently approached Matt with a request for ‘something special’ for our Ladies Christmas Luncheon. Without hesitation he said “absolutely” and wow, did he deliver! Being a small event for just four of us was never an issue for Matt, Angela and the fabulous Jam Team. They openly welcomed my addition of decorations to set the theme. The ladies and I were treated to a delicious degustation which incorporated dietary requirements and each course was perfectly accompanied by a paired wine. If the lunch itself was not remarkable and appetising enough (which it absolutely was!), enter Matt and Dot with a trolley of goodies as we were invited to be seated at a fresh table. Here is where the ’wow wow wow’ factor of our Christmas Luncheon was unveiled. With the skill of great artists, they proceeded to ‘paint’ our dessert onto the table with eloquent, inspired flair much to our immense delight. The taste, the texture, the thrill of it all was memorable and an immeasurable delight. I cannot speak more highly of Jam’s professionalism, enthusiasm, expertise, quality, uniqueness and presentation. Townsville is incredibly fortunate to have such a remarkable restaurant.
Highly Recommend!
Jam never disappoints. We have done lunches, dinners, degustation's, events etc and the food and service has always been impeccable. Would recommend to everyone!
jam! consistently the best lunch venue in Townsville, for 10 years now.
Best breakfast!

Great Food. Excellent wine and cocktails. Professional, attentive service.
Sensation, creative food.
Impeccable service
A wonderful, fresh dining experience, every time.
Quite literally find it hard to make my mind up which of the fabulous dishes to choose. Staff are efficient and well versed in the dishes. Great atmosphere!
Always consistent whether is excellent service or delicious food
Best Breakfast
Great service, great food, what more could you ask for!
Where to start... The service received by all staff is always exceptional. You are greeted with a warm friendly smile and all desires are taken care of. The venue is beautiful but most importantly the food is capital city quality without the hefty price tag. Whether you are having a casual meal or an important anniversary or business function, the menu will cater for all. I can't wait to go back!!
A League Of Their Own.
Owner Matt Merrin never fails to deliver. I have been going to Jam for seven years. When entertaining my clients I know Jam will never disappoint. Professional, passionate staff with impressive knowledge on the menu and wine list. Cracking wine list by the way!! The menu's are always exciting and food presentation is a work of art. Full of flavour and balanced. One thing I give Matt huge credit for is his ability to source some of the best local produce we have in North Queensland. Townsville is so fortunate to have this level of venue. Thank you Matt, Kieran and the team for always looking after me. Glen - Annandale.
Jam showcases Townsville
What a true community minded business leader. Matt and his team are so dedicated to Townsville and North Queensland and continue to show this through the amazing produce used to create purely stunning meals that are elegant yet substantial. The friendly service from the staff and the welcoming nature the venue entices the diner with creates the most incredible dining experience. Each meal and serving of same is done so with care and pride.
You cannot get any better than Jam!
Every time I dine at Jam whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner, the food, service and overall experience is just amazing. This is my favourite restaurant in North Queensland. I highly recommend Jam. You cannot get a better dinning experience.
The best.
My favourite dining experience in North Queensland, whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Always greeted with a friendly smiling face and made to feel so welcome. Staff are always happy, warm, and professional in all capacities during the whole experience. The menu excites and impresses always. & the food is of the highest standard in taste and presentation. Such an amazing job done by chef Matt and the team every time. Highly recommend the Jam dining experience to everyone.
Townsville's best for breakfast, lunch and dinner
So many choices but I always have the same thing on the menu.
Best breakfast of all time
Jam corner on Palmer - dining alone I got to sit and watch the traffic; although you can hear the traffic - it's right there at the lights sitting outside, it's a people watching spot. Inside certainly has that romantic or good group feel. You can still hear the music and the feeling is just right. Entree - Scallops fennel chestnut cream finger limes Main- Salmon whole grain gnocchi cauliflower and Gris cream almond pickled daikon Food great the scallops left you feeling you wanted a dozen more and the salmon although not pink in color was very good. Drink - The Blossom cocktail. The first went down very calmly with out much effect - the second certainly made up for it. Dessert - well settled with a glass of red and cheese which I'm having now Hopefully I'll sleep well tonight. Staff are friendly not overpowering but certainly keep an eye on you. The gentleman with the lovely accent and balding top is an absolute love. As I arrived relatively early and stayed a while it was great to not feel pushed out. My only thing, as the power box for the lights sits in the outdoor table area it would be great painted. For some reason I feel Audrey Hepburn era/style no idea why I think that it paint the box. My only other thing is they placed the alcohol glass on the wrong side of the table and no coaster..... I recommend anyone to head there prices reasonable and dress up or go relaxed.
Missy runs a great front of house. Welcoming, cheerful and informative advice re wines and food matching. Great presentation and innovative dishes, lovely balance and lots going on with combining flavours and textures. Great to be back!
Have been keen to try Jam Corner for a while as frustratingly they are closed on Monday evenings which is when I visit Townsville, however I was there on a busy Tuesday evening, decor and atmosphere is very nice here and the service received was of a high standard. For starters I had the crumbed olives which were pretty tasty with the Aioli dip, I would have liked a few more. There were also some small Ligurian olives on this plate which while did taste very good were hard work given the amount of flesh you got after the stone was removed! The main dish I selected was the Chicken Ballottine on fregola and barley risotto. The chicken was cooked great and the textures and general taste of this this dish were excellent, BUT sadly I was left with a rather unpleasant, lip tingling after-taste which for me ruined what could be a stand out dish. Perhaps the herbs and spices were just not right or been cooked off enough. Redemption appeared though in the Jam and Peanut Butter dessert. Other than the greenery of cress/parsley sprinkling (making I must say it's third unwelcome appearance of the evening) this was truly a delicious dessert. Fantastic textures and flavour combinations, a great high note to finish on. Finally I was less than pleased of having to pay a surcharge for any form of Credit payment, at these prices and this level of restaurant should really not be doing this, especially when using American Express bill wallets. Hopefully I will get another chance to eat at Jam Corner when I'm next there not on a Monday, yes the food was good, but really it has a little to go to make it the top level I was expecting.
Every time that we've gone to Jam Corner for either a meal or a coffee, we are treated with such respect and fantastic service. We are regulars and they even know our coffee order from memory. you will not find a better restaurant in Townsville. Matt has done a fantastic job
When are you coming to Darwin? I have just moved to Darwin from Townsville. When I go out for a meal with my partner we look for simple and elegant food which looks like it has been prepared with passion. I like going to the local pub for a quick meal, but I LOVE going out for dinner in a restaurant that has style without intimidation, wait staff that are friendly, knowledgable, but not over bearing and food that when presented looks like it was made just for me and not mass produced. Jam is that place for me and if ever it moves to Darwin I will be there on opening day. I am a fussy eater and if I had any advice it would be don't let the menu scare you, I have never been disappointed and this Chef has got me trying flavours I thought I would never try, let alone go back again for. My biggest problem is I have to buy 3 courses because it is all divine. Jam thank you for bringing simple elegance back without overstated opulence. I miss you.
This is my first review, so bare with me!
My friends and I dine at Jam Corner at least once a week and wouldn't go anywhere else - why would we?! With a seasonally inspired menu, I am guaranteed amazingly fresh, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented food whether there for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I do love that nothing is a hassle and the Chef is more than happy to cater to my occasional special requests (thanks!). The menu and presentation of their food, to me, shows obvious intelligence, creativity, passion and dedication coming from the amazing Chef. I am always excited to try new things and see what flavour packed work of art will be bought to my table. I am by no means a "foodie" but I know good food and great value for money, and Jam Corner have found that perfect balance.
The elegant setting and decor of the dining room creates a calm, relaxed ambience and you could be forgiven for thinking you are sitting in the middle of Melbourne. Coupled with the attentive yet inobtrusive staff, Jam Corner is the whole package.
Favourable situated overlooking the city and the river, the Jam Corner is the epitome of european chic. Predominately black grey and white with contrasts in texture created by pressed metal around the bar and fabulous touches of damask wall paper and some very original cane based light shades. The dining chairs, one single piece of elegantly curved wood, add warmth and style as do the bench seats and cushions around the windows with several booths available. An ornate black mirror and a large white iron chandelier complete the look, To the side a stunning dining room very elegant and private. Alfresco area very inviting. The function centre, which occupies the top floor has lavish decor of grey and black with brilliant reds featured in the wall paper, drapes and cushions. This restaurant is dedicated to providing a seasonally inspired menu, of locally sourced, organic food, where possible. Our selections from the dinner menu were, Oyster au naturale and kataifi wrapped with harissa and Yarra Valley pearls. Then Townsville half shell scallops, truffle potatoes, chorizo & salmoriglio, both dishes very memorable. Our mains were, Pepper crusted Huon salmon on a fennel risotto with Schezwan calamari and red wine reduction and Western plains pork belly, crackle, green apple, pumpkin cream hazelnut & vincotto, (the crackling was superb). Both dishes were prepared and presented to perfection and totally unforgettable. Dessert was of 4 flavours of winter chocolate petit fours, sticky date pudding / apple crumble / lemon pudding / iced cherry and chocolate souffle. To take four popular desserts and encase each one in dark chocolate was inspired, and totally delectable. The menu was accompanied by a small but selective wine list. We finished with the outstanding Piazza Doro Di Manfredi coffee. Add to the fabulous food, friendly and knowledgable service and relaxing ambience, this would have to be at the top of the list of our best dining experiences.
I tend not to post everytime I eat out and as ive eaten here in excess of ten times over the last two months it would be too much for me to write and you to read. Ive just popped in today for a coffee and saw that they had changed the lunch time specials and just couldnt resist, im so glad im weak when it comes to food. The scallops, which were cooked to absolute perfection were served with a rich potato carbonara, at fist when you look at it the portion looks small but once you start eating it you cant rush because it is quite simply so tasty and rich you want it to last. Accompanied by a lovely glass of white wine, I had the Affogato with Baileys to follow which was a lovely end to the meal. Yet again, another lovely meal, served by lovely staff. Great place.
Have visited this place sereral times now, for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Each time the staff are friendly, efficent and attentive without interupting your meal. Lunch time special $29 for two course & a glass of house wine is a must, fantastic value and well cooked food. The coffee is is gorgeous and the deserts really are to die for. You get the impression that they really care about what they do and the staff seem to have bought into this value to. Food is well presented and well cooked. Out of around 10 visits + in the last 4 weeks ive not had a bad thing to say about it and will keep going back.
