If you’re like me and have a sweet tooth, you have to visit Mrs Jones the Baker in Freshwater. But, I recommend you allow some time. The hardest decision is what to get. The bakery’s window was full of hand crafted pastries and cakes, I couldn’t just get one thing. I ended up with a box of treats, and a loaf of sourdough, I think the sourdough was my “I’m trying to be healthy” item. We grabbed a seat at the bench and had the first of several selections with a cuppa, my almond croissant was soo good and went perfectly with the great coffee. I must say I felt better hearing the next dozen or more customers, that I wasn’t the only one who struggled with selection and succumbed to the dark side, I think everyone walked out with their daily sweet requirements definitely well met. Thanks Lucy and Barry. If you’re around Waterfall you must call in, and I challenge you to only get one or two items. I know I couldn’t.
Newly opened, it will be a challenge for other bakers to keep up with these Jones'! The decor is as fresh as their delicate sweets and it's refreshing to see the bakers at the back working hard to put in place all the intricate details. I'm a lover of chocolate so I fell head over heels for the choice brownie & the chocolate slice cake (can't remember name) but it had ganache, jam, deliciously smooth chocolate & a crumbly base with just the right amount of nuts & crumble and I can see why it came number 3 in the world! I'll try the thong slice next, can't wait to see you again.
