About Scratchleys On The Wharf
One of Newcastle Harbour's most iconic and loved seafood restaurants, Scratchleys on the Wharf offers sunsets, cocktails and stunning water views. Overlooking the busy port, this restaurant on Wharf Road delights discerning diners with sunlight sparkling off the water, seen through floor-to-ceiling glass doors; private dining rooms are available for events, while Battlesticks Bar is the place to head for a cheeky cocktail. Start with velouté-style seafood chowder packed full of fish, prawns, mussels, squid, octopus and vegetables, before mains such as fresh black mussels tossed through Singapore chilli sauce, salad and toasted garlic baguette. Carnivores opt for twice-cooked rolled pork belly with apple purée, red wine and bacon braised cabbage, roasted radish and apple, with chimichurri.
A few words from Scratchleys On The Wharf
THE VIEW
Scratchleys On the Wharf overlooks the beautiful port of Newcastle Harbour in New South Wales. It's a great place to sit, relax and watch the ships go by while sipping on a glass of red wine. Make sure you book in advance and get a window seat because this view is not something you'll want to miss.
SEAFOOD
From the tastiest range of succulent seafood and sizzling steaks on the menu through to the extensive range of fine wines from the Hunter Valley, Scratchleys On the Wharf will delight your taste buds. Look over the water towards Nobby's Lighthouse with the sunlight sparkling off the magnificent water while enjoying your meal or have a quick takeaway and stroll along the Newcastle footpath. The menu is selected by the Hunter Valley's premier chefs, including seasonal specialties and daily specials.
Scratchley's is well known for its tantalising menu of succulent seafood but if you're not into fish dishes, worry not - there are a host of meat, chicken and vegetarian options as well as a long toothsome dessert menu. The hot and cold seafood platter deserves a mention here as a popular favourite. A mixture of famous Port Stephens Oysters, sweet King Prawns, Blue Swimmer Crabs and succulent Balmain Bugs make this a mouth-watering treat.
ATMOSPHERE
The restaurant is decidedly relaxed and has a friendly, homey atmosphere. The tables are left bare and clean white linen line the tops. Seating is open and airy, in harmony with the harbour. It's a place where people get together to cool off and have a laugh. Together with the view and food, what could possibly go wrong?
FUNCTIONS
If you're having a function, either a wedding reception, cocktail party, birthday party or really, any kind of get-together, Scratchley's can cater for groups of anywhere from 30 to 70 people in style and elegance. Rest assured your special event will be remembered by all your guests and that the staff are known to pay special attention to detail and can be trusted to take care of the arrangements.

Spectacular view, excellent food & amazing service
We went to Scratchleys for the first time on Friday night and it certainly lived up to expectations! Wonderful location and services was good from a smiling young staff. I had char grilled seafood with pesto delicious. My husband ordered seafood chowder that alone is worth returning for! I did feel the other fish dishes had to many flavourings going on but if you order wisely Scratchleys will not disappoint! It was a pity that I was to full for dessert but I am going back.
Ok the view and food is to die for, better than some Hat Restaurants, only downside is service, its terrible
I have been coming here since 1994 and the food is always consistently fantastic. I drive from Melbourne to eat here ant tie it in with a weekend at Salamanda bay. Best holiday treat for my family. Wendy
Always fantastic, I can never go past the pesto scallops!
I just love sitting at a table over the water and tucking into their healthy (not fried) seafood platter
We had sour dough for entree was amazing. I had chilli salt tuna steak which was unbelievable . My wife had Atlantic salmon Wellington which was equally as good .
