About The Advocate
Launching the second bespoke cocktail bar and restaurant in her collection, interior decorator and designer Jane Gorman delivers The Advocate to discerning Balwyn winers and diners. Located on Whitehorse Road, this venue embraces the traditional English architecture within the community and is inspired by Jane's youngest son Christian, who recently completed law school. Guests can expect chic elegance such as black velvet high-backed bar stools, dark walls, arched windows and subtle mood lighting setting a romantic ambience. Embark on a culinary journey with King Ora salmon crudo, lime, garlic, coriander and chilli dressing, or saffron arancini, rich sugo sauce and basil; before potato gnocchi, slow-cooked duck and porcini ragu and pecorino, finishing with chocolate delice and marscapone.

Founder, Interior Designer & Decorator Jane Gorman has launched her second bespoke restaurant & cocktail bar in her design collection.
Providing our guests with a memorable experience is the goal of The Advocate. Above all, we ensure to provide guests with an Australian inspired shared plates menu, accompanied by an extensive wine and cocktail list. Each wine is hand picked and sampled before reaching our guests. This ensures that our guests received the highest quality wine that Australia has to offer.
Head Chef at The Advocate, Ben Aldous, has worked extensively with well established restaurant groups. Therefore, Ben understands the process in crafting a unique menu.
We take our guests on a culinary journey within Victoria. As a result, we are proud to promote the best local produce Victoria has to offer. By promoting local produce we ensure that our guests are provided with a bespoke restaurant & cocktail bar in their own neighbourhood. Designing a food menu that is complimentary to our drinks menu has been a focal point.
Jane has been an interior designer and single mother who has raised three grown up children. Therefore, Jane is dedicating a creative space to each of her children that reflects their accomplishments and chosen careers. The Advocate is dedicated to her youngest son, Christian. The English common law legal system is the inspiration for The Advocate. This is due to the fact that Christian recently finished law school and has been admitted as a Lawyer in Victoria. Jane has also drawn inspiration from her travels to London and through English interior design concepts.
Jane chose Balwyn as the location for her second bespoke cocktail bar and restaurant. This was due to the traditional English architecture within the community. Furthermore, living in the local area, Jane knew Balwyn was lacking for a luxurious space to entertain family and friends.

The Advocate has 3 different function spaces within the venue. The front lounge area is the perfect setting for up to 20 guests. The dining room area is the perfect setting for up to 24 guests for a sit down dinner or 50 people for a stand up cocktail party. The library garden area is the perfect setting for up to 24 guests for a sit down dinner or 60 people for a stand up cocktail party. Alternatively the whole venue can be booked for up up 160 people.

Great food, amazing cocktails, and a beautiful atmosphere
I had the best girls’ night at The Advocate 3101! The atmosphere was beautiful, the cocktails were amazing, and the food was delicious. The staff were lovely, and the fairy-lit garden made it feel so special. If you’re looking for a great spot for a night out with friends, this is it! I’ll definitely be back.
Great cocktails and atmosphere!
Having heard great things about this place from friends, we can see why! Food was delicious, service really attentive and the cocktails were so yummy! We sat in the Library Garden under the lights, never seen such a cute space! We’ll be back as the owner told us they do events! Check this place out :)
Amazing venue, yummy food and delicious cocktails!
Located in the heart of Balwyn, The Advocate felt like a cozy wine bar with an upscale restaurant atmosphere. The venue is stunning, the wine list is great and the food menu is equally impressive, with many share plates good for a date night (or with friends).
The service was exceptional, with friendly, attentive staff who were passionate about both the food and wine. Highly recommend!!!

Magical from the moment you step through the door....
A truly unique and beautifully designed venue, with fantastic use of space. Scrumptious meals coupled with designer cocktails, personalised and attentive service, and live music performances; perfectly suited for a romantic night out with your lover (or future love!), an elegant dinner party with friends and family, or the ideal venue for your next function. If there's something bad about the Advocate, I'm yet to discover it!
