A Sausage Sizzle Fit for A King (and Queen)

By Marie-Antoinette Issa.

Given its status as one of Sydney’s most multicultural cities, it’s little surprise the Premier’s BBQ in Parramatta proved to be a seriously popular pit stop on the Royal Tour of HRH King Charles and Queen Camilla yesterday.

Leading the welcome of the Royal family into Western Sydney was Misc. - the cafe with the cult-like following in Parramatta Park, helmed by GoogleBox star Jad Nehmetallah - which rolled out the regal red carpet for the visiting monarchs for lunch.

"We’ve been working on a menu that embodies the best bits of Australia - starting with a sausage sizzle, with a Mediterranean twist - to showcase the diversity of our country,” says Misc. General Manager Sebastian Khouri.

Unlike your ordinary sanga banga, this lamb-based version - Official Title: The Royal Foldover - paid homage to Jad’s Lebanese roots and featured smoked labneh, pickled onions and sumac on freshly baked pita bread.

Adding their culinary contributions to the festivities were several other local vendors, also offering their take on this iconic Aussie eat. These included Rice Pantry which plated up its bahn-mi style take on a sausage sizzle and Surf Life Saving Australia, which dished up a classic onion and tomato sauce topped variety.

Also on the Misc. menu were two celebratory juices (available for the rest of the week): The King’s Elixir and The Queen’s Nectar - made with pomegranate, cranberry and lychee and mango juice and passionfruit - respectively

"It’s probably a little different to scones and sandwiches,” says Sebastian. "But according to our feedback, our sausages were a hit with His and Her Royal Highness.”
