Arisun: Three Decades of Flavour

For more than three decades, Arisun has established itself as an iconic culinary destination with a delightful blend of the rich traditions of Korean and Japanese cuisine. Established in 1990, this family-owned restaurant on Dixon Street in Haymarket has become a beacon for those seeking high-quality, fusion dishes in a lively, K-pop-inspired setting.

Stepping into Arisun, diners are greeted by an energetic and eclectic atmosphere. A striking neon sign announces ‘Arisun’, while vibrant screens display tantalising dishes. The interior features warm timber panelling, exposed brick walls and expansive dining tables that accommodate up to 200 guests, making it perfect for group gatherings. The pet-friendly outdoor seating area further enhances the welcoming, home-like environment.

Arisun’s menu is a masterful blend of Korean and Japanese flavours, expertly curated by Executive Group Chef Joanne Lee. With more than 32 years of culinary experience, Chef Lee brings a wealth of knowledge and creativity to the restaurant’s offerings. Her journey from South Korea to Australia and her impressive career in prestigious kitchens have deeply influenced her approach to fusion cuisine.

The menu at Arisun highlights this fusion with standout dishes that marry the best of both culinary worlds. The famous Korean Fried Chicken, with its crisp exterior and succulent interior, is a must-try, while the pork belly black bean noodle dish offers a savoury depth that reflects both Korean and Japanese influences. The halal-friendly menu extends to other signature dishes like the fish cake and Udon hot pot and the pork katsu bento box, each showcasing a harmonious blend of flavours.

For vegetarians, a dedicated menu ensures a variety of delightful options, demonstrating Arisun’s commitment to catering to diverse dietary needs. Embracing traditional Asian values, the menu’s design encourages sharing where guests can experience a range of delectable meals in one sitting.

Complementing the food is an impressive drinks menu that features inventive cocktails like the Gangnam Style, a tantalising blend of vodka, pineapple, lychee and lime, or the signature Arisun Idol (think a tropical mix of soju, vanilla, lime and pineapple). The selection of beers includes Korean favourites like Asahi and Terra, alongside Australian classics, while a variety of Korean and Japanese spirits such as the Japanese Suntory Highball and various Soju options, add an authentic touch to the dining experience.

For non-alcoholic options, choices like the housemade yuzu ice tea and Chilsung cider are refreshing alternatives.
