Cocktail of the Week from Sidebar Mixologist Aidan Coffey.

Technically, it’s not drinking alone if the bartender is there!

You know the drill…it’s Friday afternoon and time to relax after a long and stressful work week.

What better way to chill out than with a cocktail at your favourite bar or restaurant. Alternatively, you could take the party home and concoct the perfect drink to usher in the weekend.

Welcome to our Cocktail of the Week series, where each Friday we will highlight a cheeky creation to tantalise tastebuds and set the tone for good times.

Nestled in the heart of Sandringham Village, discerning foodies and wine buffs head to Sidebar Wine Store and Bar on Melrose Street to satiate hunger and thirst. Choose to sit inside this intimate bar where a rustic vibe of exposed brick, Art Deco-style wall art and blond wood table settings invite lingering over a bite to eat and glass of choice with your special someone.

Mixologist Aidan Coffey oversees Sidebar’s cocktail list and recommends trying the signature 1814 concoction:

"This cocktail is tangy, refreshing and different to the norm. It's a really nice introduction to Amaro Cocktails and Amari in general,” he explains. "It was one of the first Amaro cocktails that I made for Sidebar and uses two of the oldest products in the venue.”

Named after the year the Casoni family began distilling in Modena, Italy, a blend of Casoni 1814 Aperitivo and Cocchi Vermouth di Torrino gives this cocktail kick, while lemon, honey, balsamic vinegar and grapefruit bitters add tang.

The addition of egg white at the end results in a rich, creamy foam on the top of your drink…enjoy and Happy New Year!
