We sat down with Matt to talk about his culinary roots, his lockdown-born catering business and why he believes private dining is the future of stylish entertaining.

Like many great ideas, Catered by Matt started with a simple concept during a challenging time. While the hospitality industry was reeling from lockdowns, Matt saw an opportunity to bring restaurant-quality dining into people’s homes. Catered By Matt has quickly gained traction among Sydney’s food lovers, evolving into the full-scale operation it is today.

Now with headquarters based in Manly Vale, Catered by Matt offers a versatile menu selection ranging from refined canapé packages to indulgent buffets and multi-course degustation. For those wondering what to expect from the menu, the beauty lies in the collaborative approach to catering the event. With a range of well curated menus, there most difficult part is deciding what you don’t want. "The 36-hour beef short rib served with grilled broccolini, creamed potato and red wine jus is a must try dish” Matt explains and it’s easy to see why.

The degustation menu reads like a typical fine dining menu, except it is enjoyed from the comfort of your home. The premium 6-course menu features a range of elegant canapés such as spanner crab remoulade and torched salmon tartlets. Move on to a silky pumpkin ravioli with marron, caramelised onion and cherry tomato, all deliciously glazed with burnt butter. Potato gnocchi with mushroom puree and blue swimmer crab, Jerusalem artichoke chips, truffle, fried leek and mustard leaf round out the start of the evening.

John Dory commences the movement into mains, where succulent fillets are served with a delicate scallop mousse, caviar, chives and champagne sauce. The evening crescendos with grass-fed short rib sourced from Little Joe Beef. Served alongside creamed potato, barbeque onion, crispy shallots and red wine jus, it’s a hearty highlight.

No soiree would be complete without a sweet finish. The meal ends with a heavenly confection of Belgium chocolate mousse, raspberries, Chantily and chocolate crumb. Equal parts decadent and moreish.
