Prepare yourself for an overdose of cuteness…National Puppy Day is here on Thursday, March 23!
Established in 2006, celebrate unconditional love for your baby on this day – we are all softies when it comes to our four-legged friends. With so many pet-friendly venues around the country, what better way to show how much you love them than with a puppycino at your fave café.
Here are five of our picks to enjoy a doggie latte come Thursday:
Kickstart your day like the Novocastrians do, with a specialty coffee at One Penny Black on Hunter Street. Styled with rustic, industrial accents, pendent lighting and exposed brick, this honest café is softened by calming green walls and potted herbs, which flows into a dining space that lends itself best to laid-back dining.
There is always a crowd of fur babies alfresco as they lick their brew from paper cups and their owners catch up over all-day fare like a salmon, mushroom and asparagus stack on sourdough; or harissa eggs Benny, with smoked salmon on an English muffin.
Set tails and tongues wagging on Thursday at The Flying Fig Delicatessen on Jeffcott Street in North Adelaide. Paying homage to New York City’s Jewish delicatessens, this is the ideal spot for both you and pupper to refuel, recharge and replenish both your body and your pantry from shelves groaning with sustainable fresh, local produce.
Furry friends are always welcome as you chow down on baked eggs in a spiced tomato, red pepper and onion sauce with schug, Persian feta, mint and pita; or wrap your hands around an original Rueben sandwich, with corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing on dark rye.
Pets are always welcome to chill at Oscar Italia on Varsity Parade in Varsity Lakes - there are even treats available to keep pup satisfied while you enjoy a slice of gourmet chicken and basil pesto pizza, or a plate of pasta accompanied by a glass of Chardonnay.
Perhaps start with garlic prawns in white wine butter sauce, or beef ragu arancini and arrabbiata sauce; then delve into duck cannelloni, with confit duck, forest mushrooms, grilled broccolini and rocket salad.
Dogs have a woofin’ good time at The Park Hotel on Watton Street in Werribee’s CBD. This eatery, beer hall and events space has an industrial feel, while the outdoor beer garden beckons both humans and pups on balmy days to enjoy an ice-cold beer from 30 taps on offer, as well as local craft beer, cocktails and wine.
Chow down on a stick pork belly bao, with pickled carrots and pear, spring onion, peanuts and shoestring fries, or pick up a slice of smoked lamb gourmet pizza, topped with roasted eggplant, bocconcini, oregano and Parmesan.
Soak up the relaxing atmosphere and beautiful gardens at destination-worthy café Fig & Co on Annangrove Road in Kenthurst. Catch up with fur babies, family and friends amidst trailing greenery in light and airy surrounds and listen to the bubbling water feature as you watch the Fig's barnyard animals frolicking in their pen.
Early risers can stop in after a doggie walk to replenish with buttermilk pancakes, vanilla cream, compote, fresh berries, ice cream and maple syrup drizzle; while the lunch crowd gathers over a glass of wine and grilled fish, greens, baby Dutch carrots and baked chat potato.
