Find a space inspired by love of community, wine and European cuisine at new restaurant on the McLaren Vale block, Hays Street Bar + Kitchen in Goolwa. A rustic vibe of exposed brick, wooden ceiling beams, pendent globes and a well-stocked bar await diners as they peruse a menu showcasing seasonal, quality local produce used to create food to nourish the soul.
Why should you drop in for a meal at Hays Street Bar + Kitchen? Here are three good reasons:
What’s your most popular dish/drink:
That depends on who you ask! For the meat lovers our steaks are mouth-watering and cooked to perfection but you’ll have a hard time choosing between that, the delectable beef cheeks or the slow-cooked lamb. For vegetable lovers the cauliflower is out of this world but be careful not to fill up on the mushroom croquettes.
"For me personally, I cannot go past the local Goolwa pipis that are paired with leek, pernod cream, dill and crusty bread,” says owner Daniel Cahill.
"We have a selection of incredible local wines, beers, ciders and spirits. However, it would not be a trip to Hays St without trying Dan’s famous Espresso Martini. I might be biased but I’d go as far as to say it’s the best you’ll ever have.”
What is your point of difference?
Dan once said: "I love hospitality, it’s like hosting a dinner party every night,” and honestly that quote pretty much sums it up.
Coming into Hays St is like entering Dan’s very own dining room. For those lucky enough to have dined at one of Daniel’s dinner parties they will know that his charm, zest for life and passion for all things food and wine make him the perfect host.
It’s the warmth of Daniel and his staff, paired with the exquisite talent of the Chefs and delicious local produce, that sets Hays St apart.
What is a fun fact that not many people know about the restaurant?
This restaurant is Dan’s dream come to life. He has worked in hospitality nearly his whole adult life and has run a bunch of different, amazing venues.
"The opportunity to lease this space came up when we were on our honeymoon in Europe,” explains Dan’s wife Tilly. "We were driving around the French countryside in a hired camper van, spending our days dreaming up a restaurant.
"The idea for Hays St was born in Europe and we have our honeymoon to thank for the restaurant’s European influence.”
