Look What’s New Near You – Park Bar in Balaclava.

Are you always on the lookout for a new café or restaurant to indulge yourself, family and friends?

No sweat…we have you covered! Every week AGFG will aim to let you know what new venues have opened in your area and why you should give them a try.

You can help too – just click here to email our PR team and let us know of a new eatery in your suburb so we can inform everyone and help these establishments thrive and survive during tough times.

Why should you dine at Park Bar? Here are three good reasons:

Balaclava foodies seeking delicious Japanese and Korean fusion fare head along Carlisle Street to discover Park Bar. A sleek and trendy vibe of polished concrete floors, trailing greenery suspended from the ceiling and stools to perch on at the bar, invite lingering over a Hana Banana Malibu cocktail with friends.

What’s your most popular dish/drink:

Our must-try dish is bimbim rice, it’s the traditional Korean dish bibimbap and comes with nine different sides and one main dish.

Our cocktails mainly use an Asian liqueur base such as soju, yuzu gin, shiso juice and makgeolli (Korean rice wine ) - the must-try cocktail is ‘Killer o the Autumn’.

We have 33 kinds of sushi available during lunchtime, made with the highest grade of sushi rice ‘koshihikari’. Apart from sushi, we have a selection of hot meals during lunch, including Japanese curry, pork kimchi udon, Korean glass noodles (japchae), soba noodles, Korean BBQ pork and beef.

What's your point of difference:

We are one of the few places selling Gimbap (Korean-style sushi) in Melbourne - many people travel here to purchase our Gimbap. The dinner menu is mainly based on Korean cuisine, it makes us the only restaurant providing Korean food in Balacalva.

At Park bar, we are passionate about food and care about customer experience, we make a homemade sauce with the Park family recipe and also fresh kimchi weekly.

What is a fun fact that not many people know about the restaurant?

We were formerly ‘Rolls’ Japanese kitchen in Balaclava for 15 years, after COVID we couldn’t renew the lease the landlord was asking for.

Luckily we found the current venue, which is only across the road from our old shop. Our co-founder Grace Park is Korean and has trained in Japanese and Korean cuisine; she is also a Mum with two kids.

We have fund-raising programmes with St Mary’s and Ripponlea primary schools, where we donate 10% of purchases made at our shop back to the schools and offer a 20% student discount from 3pm-5pm Monday to Friday.
