6-9 March
Since 1955 Moomba festival has been attracting enthusiastic crowds to the banks of the Yarra to enjoy its bustling carnival and family-friendly program. Think free entertainment, events and activities over the Labour Day long weekend that’ll keep the whole family busy.
Enjoy music performances at the main arena and water sports on the river, while at birdman rally watch homemade flying devices try to make it across the Yarra for charity. Participants compete as either Hawks or Penguins for the Charity jackpot.
On Monday March 9 at 11am, the festival will be brought to life through the Moomba parade with close to 2000 passionate participants including performance troupes, professional and amateur dancers as well as local school groups. Across the weekend you can design your own float and submit it in The Pavilion to be considered for the 2016 Moomba parade.
Don't miss the grand finale of fireworks to their headline performances on Saturday, Sunday and Monday night - best viewing sports are from the river banks at the main arena as well as Alexandra Gardens.
This year's Moomba Monarchs are Shane Warne (Australian Cricket) and Pallavi Sharda (Bollywood).
