Italians gave the world pizza - but, it was (okay, debatedly) Aussies, who perfected it through the addition of toppings such as bacon and eggs.
Similarly, while chocoholics will forever be in debt to the people of Piedmont for the creation of the most popular sweet hazelnut spread in the universe, accolades must surely also be extended to Australia and New Zealand, who this month have partnered with Nutella to release seven limited-edition labels across its jar range.
Each one pays tribute to iconic landmarks from both countries, including the majestic mountain peaks of New South Wales, the fairy-floss tinted waters of SA’s Lake MacDonnell and the pristine blue hues of New Zealand's Lake Pukaki.
Yes, just when you thought the combination of hazelnuts, sugar and cocoa powder could not possibly get any sweeter, Nutella’s new jars invite home bakers to enjoy a virtual Antipodean journey from the comfort of their kitchen.
They also spread the love by creating a range of recipes made 'Nutella way’, namely, heroing the iconic choc-hazelnut spread (that today is proudly produced in Lithgow, NSW) and fusing it with traditional local ingredients.
Some of the suggestions proposed by Nutella Brand Ambassador and baking queen Kat Sabbath include: toasted coconut mini pavlovas with Nutella; lemon myrtle and macadamia buttermilk pancakes with Nutella and Nutella fairy bread lamingtons - if you can make Nutella avo toast work, then you’re strongly encouraged to!
While Nutella regulars definitely don’t need much direction to find these limited-edition jars, (which will sit alongside the standard spread in all good supermarkets), for those keen to get creative in the kitchen, the full range of Aussie and Kiwi recipes with a Nutella twist can be found online.
