Summer Down Under is a season of fun and sun…sandy toes, burnt nose and days spent lazing by the pool.
It is a season full of celebration from festive family gatherings to cricket and tennis on our TV screens, we fully embrace Summer in every way possible, whether you are looking for a place to get away from it all, or a recipe for that barbeque you are planning for the weekend.
This week we’ve got it all covered – we tell you what fruit and vegetables are in season, with recipes and top tips on storage and usage; we also have the best spots for weekend brunch, rooftop bars for watching the sun set with a cocktail in hand, or a place to plan that sunset soirée you have been dreaming about.
Check out Laura Rancie’s chat with Simmone Logue from Essington Park cooking school and bushland NSW retreat, ideal for Summer getaways; along with a review of the cookbook Now and Then by Tessa Kiros, which is a feminine-influenced collection of Tessa’s travels through Tuscany, Mexico, New Orleans, Thailand and Greece.
Thinking about taking a cooking class over the holidays? No sweat, we have six places where you can up your culinary game under the watchful eye of award-winning Chefs such as ALBA’s Peter Kuruvita. We also head to Palmview on the Sunshine Coast to chat with Mango’s Bar and Grill Head Chef Robert Caymo Cauilan, who inherited his culinary talents from his Mum and Grandmother, helping them in the kitchen of their home in the Philippines.
His recipe for braised pork belly and papaya salad is perfect for Summer dining and holds a special place in Robert’s heart, reflecting his Filipino heritage through this traditional dish – each bite is a taste of nostalgia and celebration of his roots.
Nothing goes better with hot weather than an icy cocktail – we’ve got your back with a creative cocktail recipe collection along with some non-alcoholic mixes from Good Cocktail Co for those wanting an alcohol-free version of their fave drink.
