Talking Nutrition, Supplements and Gut Health

By Laura Rancie .

Last week was National Nutrition Week - a campaign to talk about the health and well-being of Australians and the integral role that diet plays in how we feel every day. I have always been a big fan of 'being an expert in your own health'.

Lately, I've been particularly fascinated with a Netflix series called 'Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones'. The blue zones referenced are about particular areas in the world with unusually high numbers of centenarians. Among some of these blue zones are Okinawa in Japan, the mountain villages of Sardinia, the Greek island of Ikaria and Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula.

Out of contributing factors like staying active, community and faith, was the obvious marker - diet. Specifically, a consistent lifestyle made up of fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, beans and nuts.

I’ve been waiting for the right time to talk about a brand close to my heart that I truly believe in and have researched for my own family’s nutritional benefits. I was lucky enough to come across leading Australian plant-based nutrition brand, Eimele, through work and obtained samples to try. With the backing of Aussie nutritional gurus such as Lindy Klim and Simon Hill advocating for the products, it had already naturally piqued my interest prior to trying the range.

My findings:

With three children between primary and high school ages and a busy lifestyle, my husband and I place a large importance on nutritional supplements as we know we can’t get it all from the foods we eat in our busy lives.

We love and enjoy a wide and varied diet already abundant in fruit and vegetables - our home has a built-in smoothie and juice bar that heroes our kitchen. However, we still rely on supplements. Imagine my shock when the brand that I had been using for a few years that I thought was the best, up to the point of trying Eimele, was no longer the best.

Eimele’s essential rainbow powder in comparison was at times between double and up to four times more nutritionally dense per serve.

I then compared Eimele’s Shine Greens formula – with very similar results. Again, with Eimele’s Essential 8 multivitamins.

Is it for everybody? I actually think so. Please note, this is purely my opinion based on what I had previously been using and my own research on the ingredient nutritional profiles. It was enough to get me excited. I made the complete switch on several products this year and haven't looked back.

Essential 8 – this comprehensive vitamin contains Omega-3, selenium vitamin B12, vitamin D3, calcium, iodine, iron and zinc. For me specifically, the amount of iron in this is higher than my normal iron supplement from the health food shop. I run low – and this is an absolute non-negotiable for me. zinc is also a mineral that my body needs to function at its best. I love that it’s included in Essential 8.

Essential Rainbow – I love this superfood powder in my smoothies every single morning for breakfast. I love that there is no aftertaste like a lot of powders have and I also really, truly love the fresh fruity taste of the powder. It’s another non-negotiable for me. With a nutrient-dense formula and a total of 77 nutrients, it's designed to nourish and support all body systems.

Shine Greens - this daily greens formula created with specific ingredients supports your body's natural detoxification process, boosts your immunity and gut health, supports the gut microbiome and promotes optimal function of key organs. Shine Greens has a special blend of nutrient-dense, plant-based wholefood ingredients, fibre, pre- and pro-biotics that are known to benefit the liver, kidneys and intestine.

With 70% of your immune system located in the gut, looking after your gut health is key to living a healthy life. You wouldn't take all three of these on the same day - but this is where becoming an expert on your health plays into it. What does your body need?

"Nutrition is vital to maintaining health and well-being, it’s important for everyone but especially those Super Mums who we know are really burning the candle at both ends,” says Simon Hill, who is the Head of the Eimele Scientific Advisory Board, as he describes the importance of nutrition especially for Mums, like me.

Lindy adds:  "Working within the wellness industry with my own brands, I’m quite conscious of the importance of my well-being and in particular the importance of gut health...Shine Greens is a convenient solution...one scoop once a day and you’re done, it’s quick and easy and it really works.” Yes, it really does Lindy.

Eimele has a broad range of other nutritional products available including a revolutionary calibrated reds formula to help with healthy weight loss and an Optimal Omega+ product that is packed with daily omega-3 EPA and DHA supplements plus added antioxidant support, derived from microalgae oil.

It’s up to you to be an expert in your own nutrition. Ask the questions. Do the research. Compare products and brands and see what works for you.

We'll cheer you on!!
