Avocados are grown in several regions across Australia; however, the major growing regions are the Sunshine Coast and Atherton Tablelands in Queensland (July to October), Northern NSW from July to October and also Western Australia (July to March).

Varieties:
The main avocado varieties grown in Australia are between Hass and Shepard, with Hass representing 83% of production, but the Shepard is the superstar that doesn’t change colour!

Seasonality:
Avocados are available in Australia year-round, but the peak season varies depending on the region. In general, the main avocado season in Australia runs from late Autumn to early Spring with peak supply occurring after Summer from March through to November.

Consumption:
Australians are among the highest consumers of avocados per capita globally. Avocados are commonly used in salads, sandwiches, dips (like guacamole) and as a topping for toast.

Health Benefits:
Avocados are a nutrient-dense fruit, rich in healthy fats, fibre, vitamins (such as vitamin E, vitamin C and vitamin K) and minerals (such as potassium and magnesium). They are also low in sugar.

Avocado Industry:
The avocado industry in Australia has been growing steadily over the years, driven by increasing consumer demand for healthy and natural foods. The industry has faced challenges such as weather conditions, pest and disease management as well as market fluctuations but remains a staple in Aussie diets.

Export:
Australia exports a significant portion of its avocado production to key markets in Asia, particularly Japan and Singapore as well as the Middle East. Export opportunities continue to grow, particularly with the increasing global demand for avocados.

Shepard avocados are 100% Australian-grown and available at most major grocery, independent and local food markets.
