One of the great parts of being a food writer and working so closely with food is…you guessed it, the food!
Every now and then weird and/or wonderful food combinations and flavours pop up on my desk. You know the type, where initially you re-read the heading thinking, did I get that wrong? But no, it’s just that you hadn’t ever, like not ever, considered those two together before.
For example, when a certain famous queue for hours to get in Croissanterie made a lasagna x croissant; or when Arnott’s Shapes came out with a Vegemite flavour.
Here are some fun new ones that I think you should definitely consider trying because…why not?
As part of World Chocolate Day recently, one very clever chocolate company, Junee Licorice and Chocolate was experimenting with all different types of chocolate combinations and came up with caramel-coated Licorice and salt and pepper-flavoured chocolate.
Little Drippa elevated coffee cocktails with a bar quality cold drip coffee. It’s a bartender’s secret to making the perfect espresso martini, but the company shook (not stirred) things up and tried out Tik Tok’s viral trend with a Parmesan Espresso Martini. What would Sean Connery say?
Yorkshire Tea also stirred up the tea market for Australians with the introduction of its specialty brew varieties – Biscuit Brew, which literally tastes like biscuits (without the crumbs) and Toast and Jam Brew, combining the best of breakfast flavours with premium tea. Now I guess this makes sense given biscuits are Aussies favourite accompaniment to tea, so why not combine the two?!
What flavour combinations would you be keen to try from the above?
