About Cowra POW Camp
Listed as one of the top Heritage sites in New South Wales is the Cowra Prisoner of War Camp Site, where 4,000 Axis military personnel and civilians were held during the Second World War. The Cowra POW camp was also the site of one of the largest prison escapes of the war. Today, visitors can wander the grounds and explore the remains along the walking trail. A scale model of the camp remains on display at the Cowra Visitors Centre, along with the POW theatre, which shows a nine minute presentation of the prison breakout from a local resident's perspective.
