About Gippsland Wine Region
To the wine drinkers, Gippsland is one liquid mass; to the producers, it's divided up into three distinct regions - west, south and east. The driest and warmest of the three is the west around Warragul, its boundary backing onto the Yarra Valley. Chardonnay, shiraz and cab sav are the shining sips of this region, with the South Gippsland's opposite weather conditions producing some of the nation's best pinot noir. East Gippsland's Mediterranean climate best suits the production of Chardonnay, with riesling, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and merlot also making an appearance in the cellar doors.
