The Aldgate Pump Hotel, is named after a water well in the main street opposite the hotel. Installed by the then proprietor in 1864. A replica is displayed on the footpath opposite the hotel today. The main dining area is L shaped around the bar, with a circular log burner, servicing both area's. Fabulous in winter. There is booth seating around the walls, also table and chair dining. This area looks out onto a raised beer garden, set in attractive gardens. Very popular in summer. We dined on thursaday evening which is their steak night. Very good value. Each night has board specials to boost an already extensive menu, which includes, salmon, duck, kangaroo fillets, kebabs, seafood and vegetarian. The steaks were 300grm accompanied by fresh, crisp greens and fries, great for a hearty eaters All very well prepared and presented. We finished with an all time favorite of mine, bread and butter pudding, nostalgic. A good latte was a fitting finale to an enjoyable evening.
