Definitely a hidden gem (went there about 4 yrs ago now must admit whilst in Albany on hols, but a friend's going soon so I recommended it & found on the web). Although its a Thai Cafe it did the most AMAZING black forest cake that you have to try if they still do it ! The thai green chook curry was PRETTY good too ! Maleeya and Peter were the most friendly couple who came and sat with us for a while as it wasn't too busy. ******* Rob Broadbent from the West has reviewed it +++ too I believe
Having read in "Gourmet Traveler" & other Reviews about the truly home cooked Thai Food @ Maleeya's we decided to stay at their Studio for the nights of Fri21st / Sat22nd May to indulge before heading home from a break in the Southern Region. We were well & truly rewarded.... Only open on Fri /Sat & Sun each week for lunch and dinner it was well patronised at the appointed time of 6pm....this gave us an indication. BYO Wine with a corkage cost is brilliant as you can buy from the numerous Wineries right at the doorstep to the area at both Mt.Barker & Porongurups. We ordered our favourites [you can view the Menu on the site] and over two evenings left our taste buds salivating for the next meal and our stomachs stretched..... simply could not leave a morel. Herbs are home grown in Maleeya & Peter's Garden and the fresh taste is testimony to this.... Ingredients such as Fresh Prawns are exactly that!! FRESH & JUCY ... BEEF melt in the mouth, every subtle flavour sneaking through to delight. We tried 8 dishes over two dinners & then ordered Take-Away for our return trip having bought an Esky with us. The Saturday Morning we were there "Maleeya's Thai Cafe" had a full page Review written about Maleeya, Peter, the Cafe and how it all started in the "West Australian" Magazine by Mark Irving. He was spot on as far as we were concerned. While it is a drive to get there you will be rewarded & if you are vacationing in the region then we also recommend the Studio which was another hidden gem and all of its own.
