The Verandah Café at Poppy’s Home and Garden can be found South of Newcastle on Oakdale Road, where weathered railings frame a sheltered deck area overlooking a courtyard rich with luscious saplings, shapely hedges and marble statues. Interior furnishings are kept bright, matching the light beaming in from wall to wall windows, resulting in a peaceful backyard ambience. Herbs and greens from the garden show up in tempting choices like quinoa and coconut crusted barramundi, with baked kipfler potato, blanched green beans, dill salad and avocado tomato salsa, on a menu subtly offering a partnering wine, in this case Kakpuka Sauvignon Blanc.

Morning tea was all good except was disappointed with the cream served with the scones . Used to be fresh cream but cream sprayed out of a can just doesn’t match up ??
Definition of Customer Service
I would like to praise Belinda at the Cafe for exceptional service. I had booked the cafe for 20 August at midday but because there was a police action in progress Oakvale Road was closed and no time was given for opening back up. Belinda was good enough to call me at 8.30am to advise such situation which allowed me plenty of time to rebook another place and advise my visitors that we coming along. This amount of time was invaluable. They could have left the phone call to later or not rang at all. I so appreciated this as I have been to Poppys Cafe before - customer service is always in the hands of the customer - so again, well done Belinda at Popyys.
