Happy hour is when I wine down!
The historical roots of Happy Hour date all the way back to the early 20th Century – the term is actually derived from American Naval slang in the 1920s. After World War I, happy hours were periods of time when sailors could engage in relaxing activities to relieve themselves of the drudgery of life at sea.
These days we head to our favourite venues for drinks and meal deals to make Happy Hour even happier…why limit happy to one hour?

Drinks & Daily Dinner Specials
Locally sourced seafood and produce are what you will find on the menu at The Peninsula Brasserie on Currarong Road. Nestled within Currarong Bowling & Recreation Club on Jervis Bay Peninsula, this warm and inviting restaurant offers views of the greens as you sip a cheeky cocktail and check out a menu with something to tempt all tastes from fresh oysters to perfectly cooked sirloin steak.
Come for Happy Hour Monday to Thursday nights for drinks specials and stay for daily dinner specials such as steak, chips, salad and a schooner of house beer for $22, or chicken schnitzel with chips and salad for $22, with the option to make it a parmy for an extra $3.
Fresh, Local & Evolving
Keeping it fresh, local and evolving is the motto behind well-loved Subiaco watering hole Refuge Small Bar on Subiaco Square Road. Since 2016, this Perth dining destination has been serving locals independently owned beer, wine and spirits, with a focus on fresh, quality and handmade fare from the kitchen.
Monday to Wednesday from 4 pm-5 pm, Happy Hour swings into action with $3 off tap beer and glasses of wine, best paired with snacks such as buttermilk fried popcorn chicken, aioli and lemon, or the Refuge beef burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and fries.
Innovative Japanese Fusion Menu
Discover a lively Japanese izakaya serving tapas-style dishes infused with native ingredients at Miss Lucy on Clarence Street in Port Macquarie. Open late, expect a cosy ambience and innovative menu featuring a fusion of traditional and modern Japanese flavours in fun and funky surrounds of neon lighting, white-washed brick and comfy lounging couches.
Stop in for Happy Hour from Tuesday to Saturday from 8.30 pm-10 pm for $15 cocktails and $10 bar snacks such as shelled edamame, chicken bao buns, croquettes and furikake fries, washed down with an Elderflower Collins cocktail or classic Highball.
Coastal Dining Experience
Overlooking the rolling waves of Terrigal, enjoy a drink on the terrace at Swells restaurant and bar on Terrigal Esplanade for an unforgettable coastal dining experience. This is as oceanfront as you get across the road from golden sands and balmy breezes; while indoors is light and bright with blond wood furniture, potted greenery and a well-stocked bar promising a cheeky cocktail or two.
Come for lunch or dinner on a Wednesday and Thursday to take advantage of the Autumn special of wining and dining for just $39 – think dishes like crispy pork belly, pickled red cabbage, apple sauce, Nashi pear, ginger and honey parsnip.
