From Europe with Love – Let the Games Begin!

From the Editor, Leigh O’Connor.

What better week to celebrate all things European?

The spectacular opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games set the tone for immersing yourself in the culture, cuisine and beauty of Europe as we sailed down the Seine with our athletes taking in all the City of Light has to offer.

Get ready to cheer on our Boomers as they play the second game of their Olympic basketball campaign tomorrow night against Canada at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Paris – plus we have 5 great Aussie recipes to get you through the game! Check out what is probably the most picturesque venue at the Games as the beach volleyballers get into the action under the shadow of the Eiffel Tower!

We visit some of our new AGFG Readers’ Choice Award winners and tell you why you need to check them out…remember you voted for these venues, did your favourite win an award?

Not your average Italian Chef – we chat to Enrico Paulii from Juliana’s Cucina & Bar who is passionate about animal conservation, welfare and wildlife rehabilitation. Born in Torino, Enrico like so many others, began his kitchen life as a dishwasher before leaving Italy for the Canary Islands at age 18 when he met an Italian Chef who taught him everything he knew.

Defining his style as high-quality, modern Mediterranean, Enrico’s dishes feature spicy flavours and fresh organic herbs as seen in his recipe for lamb rolata with mustard leaves, mint jelly and intense rich red wine jus, which he shares with AGFG home cooks.

If you are looking for the best place in town for a steak or Friday fish and chips, we have the quintessential guide to great dining, while our furry friends aren’t forgotten with the ulti-mutt roundup of dog-friendly venues for a puppycino and barking good time.

Latte art has become a marker of an experienced and skilled barista and is appreciated by coffee lovers as a more personalised touch to their café visit; we dish up six venues to find your cup of happiness along with a work of art!
