Inspired by the rustic, cosy bars of Osaka’s nightlife, Yakitori 38 on the Row in the heart of the city brings authentic Japanese flavours to Canberra. Following the izakaya restaurant style, this dining destination is ideal for group dining or a late-night snack, paired with a beverage from the bar; enjoyed in surrounds of recycled timber, stacked stone and moody lighting.
Why should you drop in for a meal at Yakitori 38? Here are three good reasons:
What’s your most popular dish/drink:
It’s hard to narrow down our must-try dishes from our large menu selection. Our extensive menu for those who haven't experienced yakitori before, means they are in for a delightful treat. We specialise in a variety of bite-sized pieces of meat and vegetables expertly cooked on a charcoal grill and served on bamboo skewers. Though the portions may be small, the flavours expertly crafted by co-owner and Executive Chef Juno Chung are nothing short of extraordinary.
Transport your taste buds to the streets of Tokyo with our succulent Negima chicken thigh and green onion skewers, grilled to juicy perfection; while our Ueno Fizz floral sake-based cocktail not only looks visually stunning, it's equally as delicious with a harmonious balance of sweet, tart and botanical flavours with every sip.
What is your point of difference?
While other Japanese restaurants may offer a variety of sushi, sashimi, and ramen dishes, our focus lies solely on the art of yakitori and other Japanese skewers. Here, we specialise in grilling succulent meat and vegetables to perfection over charcoal, bringing out unique flavours and textures in every skewer. Our menu showcases an array of meticulously crafted yakitori skewers each created with traditional Japanese techniques focusing on authenticity.
What is a fun fact that not many people know about the restaurant?
The biggest thing people might not know is the late-night kitchen hours. We’ve noticed the heart of the city lacks late night food and that’s where we step in. Our kitchen is open from Tuesday to Wednesday until 11 pm, Thursday until 12 am and Friday and Saturday until 1 am.
