Gift Dad Sebastian’s Shiraz this Father’s Day

Receiving positive reviews at this year’s Good Food & Wine Show in Melbourne, Steels Gate’s Sebastian Atkins-Davis has released his new wine – a 2022 Shiraz!

Remember Sebastian? Just two years ago at age 11, we asked the question was he Australia’s youngest winemaker? Since then, the son of Steels Gate’s winemakers Brad Atkins and Matthew Davis has gone from strength to strength creating wines with minimal intervention, wild yeast, no added chemicals, filtering or fining, including a Cabernet-Shiraz, Chardonnay and Merlot.

Beginning his winemaking journey at the tender age of eight, Sebastian makes all of the winemaking decisions himself with his first wine being nicknamed ‘Smerlot’ and is still referred to as that. His latest drop is a single barrel Shiraz from the cool-climate Dixons Creek vineyard in the Yarra Valley and exudes enticing aromas of red currants, dark cherries and cedar.

On the palate, it is rich yet refined with soft tannins, a medium-bodied mouthfeel and a savoury, lingering finish, beautifully representing the elegance of a European Syrah.

The grapes were hand-picked in March 2022 and fermented using wild yeast in a single French oak barrel for 15 months.
