Are you always on the lookout for a new café, bar or restaurant to indulge yourself, family and friends?
No sweat…we have you covered! Every week AGFG will aim to let you know what new venues have opened in your area and why you should give them a try.
You can help too – just click here to email our PR team and let us know of a new eatery in your suburb so we can inform everyone and help these establishments thrive and survive during tough times.
Discover Parkville’s hidden ‘little treasure’ dining destination, Café Tesorina on Morrah Street. Step beyond the pink façade to find a warm and inviting vibe of bright blue subway tiles, exposed well-worn brick and potted greenery to join a lively buzz of conversation as friends gather over a bite and a brew; while on balmy days, sit alfresco under market umbrellas and peruse an all-day menu sure to tempt all tastes.
Why should you drop in for a meal at Café Tesorina? Here are three good reasons:
What’s your most popular dish:
We change our menu every 3-4 months as we try our best to use seasonal and locally sourced produce - one tried and tested dish that will never be taken off the menu is our big brekkie roll. It's a classic bacon and egg roll done on a lightly toasted ciabatta, with avocado, rocket and our housemade relish
It can also be done with halloumi which is equally as delicious – a simple, no fuss and scrumptious breakfast option.
What is your point of difference?
One of the things that makes us special is the history of the building and it's place within the community. This iconic corner store building has witnessed more than 139 years of continual trade and has been a beloved part of the community since its establishment in 1884.
The building’s facade remains largely original, with signage advertising John Bull Oats still intact. It’s a glimpse into the past that you just don’t see anymore. Before we took over two and a half years ago, it was the beloved Parkville Store for 10 years. Prior to that it was owned by a Greek family who ran it as a milk bar, serving pantry staples and homemade hot meals.
It has always held a special place in the hearts of the community of Parkville and has been a welcoming and unassuming meeting place for many years. We are passionate about upholding this tradition and we do our best to foster that sense of family and community here as Cafe Tesorina.
What is a fun fact that not many people know about the restaurant?
The dog that features on our logo is not called Tesorina, despite the common assumption. His name is Esky and he's a 10-year-old rescue greyhound who lives with the owner, Alex. He's our current head of HR and does his best work from bed.
