Celebrate St Patrick's Day March 17, 2016
Welcome the luck of the Irish with a Guinness in hand and a belly full of fantastic Irish stew.
Try a mint Guinness float this year for something a little bit different. This photo + recipe is by Leigh Ann Chatagnier over at the Upperlyne & Co.
Although not a public holiday in Australia, we have adopted the patron saint of Ireland as our own as an ode to the Irish who first migrated to Australia in 1840. Traditionally in Ireland St Patrick's Day is more of a family affair where they respect the holiday as a Catholic feast day as well as celebrating all things Irish.
However, in true Aussie style we've made it a bit of a party, many get involved by going to an Irish pub or restaurant and partaking in their St Patrick's Day activities, these usually lead into the night where you can party on with live bands, lucky door prizes and Irish cocktails (as well as green beer!)
Head over here for the nearest St Patrick's Day event to you.
If you want to get into the spirit at home, check out some of our St Patrick's Day recipes. AGFG personally favours the Irish Flag and Everybody's Irish, we are also hoping that they favour us the following day (we have a remedy for that though - check out our Irish Coffee recipe). Remember to drink responsibly and have a bacon sandwich for breakfast on the Friday.
