There’s nothing worse than waking up the morning after a Sunday session with a hangover.
You could bite the bullet and head to your local café to fuel up on carbs…what about making your own toastally delicious mushroom hangover cure at home?
Australians love a good café breakfast with more than a third claiming food is their favourite part of eating out in the morning – now you can recreate these classic dishes at home with the help of Australian Mushrooms.
Partnering with internationally renowned Chef Jason Roberts, they are encouraging Aussies to try new spins on everyone’s favourite mushrooms on toast.
"Mushrooms are the ideal canvas for the ultimate breakfast, lending themselves to any flavour profile with their own unique earthiness,” Jason explains. "We’d love to see Aussies getting creative and experimenting with the mighty mushy to create new taste temptations.”
Not only are mushrooms on toast a complete meal, featuring good quality carbohydrates, the hero ingredient is also versatile, high in protein and packed with Vitamin B, D and Selenium – which is great for immune health.
Jason’s recipes for balsamic mushrooms on sourdough toast with blistered cherry tomatoes, feta and basil oil; along with miso butter mushrooms and cavolo nero on toasted ciabatta, both come in at around $4 per serve.
Dish these temptations up to the family for an easy and versatile weekend breaky, or delve in for the ultimate hangover cure after a big night out!
To encourage Aussie cafés to hero mushrooms in more dishes, Australian Mushrooms is running a competition until the end of the month to determine the best #MyMushroomToast.
"I’m excited to see cafés flex their creativity and come up with some new and delicious variations of mushrooms on toast,” says Australian mushrooms grower, Georgia Beattie. "Mushrooms on toast is a dish that suits almost every diet – including vegan and vegetarian – meaning they are truly the best ingredient for cafés to experiment with for the competition.”
The café which creates the best mushrooms on toast and adds the dish to their menu will receive $10,000. For more information, visit australianmushrooms.com.au/@australianmushrooms.
