We all know Aussies like a drink and this was most certainly the case during the past two years! In fact, Australians took a YOLO approach to buying booze and treated themselves to a bottle of French wine more often than most of the rest of the world during COVID-19.
What better way to celebrate International Rosé Day on Saturday, June 11 than with a glass of classic French AIX, the epitome of a crisp, clean and delicious rosé?
Held every year on the second Saturday in June, this day was started by Swedish wine house Bodvár to pay homage to all things rosé.
Drawn from one of Provence’s most celebrated terroirs, AIX is created to be the purest possible expression of what a rosé wine can be.
A personal favourite of mine, AIX immediately springs to mind as a Spring or Summer drop, best enjoyed after a day outdoors. Really this wine can be enjoyed all year round, the 2021 AIX Rosé is the perfect wine for any convivial occasion – be it early aperitifs, long lunches, or matched with the finest Michelin-starred dishes.
It is a wine to be shared with family and friends to bring people together and to celebrate life’s precious moments.
The 2021 vintage proved to be challenging but very successful for AIX, extreme weather and fires impacted several vineyards in Provence; thankfully Maison Saint Aix was spared any direct impact with the aspect and slope of the vineyard fending off the worst of the Spring frost.
The global pandemic added further obstacles into the wine growing season – however, the team’s hard work, followed by a minimal intervention philosophy in the cellar has culminated in a classic vintage.
A pure, pale salmon pink in colour, with gentle onion skin hues that shine in the glass upon swirling, this AIX Rosé has a fine, delicate nose with floral blossom, peach, fresh citrus and hints of red fruit, leading to a fresh and bright palate.
With a spritely acidity balanced with wild strawberry, raspberry and stone fruit notes, the 2021 vintage has lovely line and tension leading to a surprisingly long and complex finish.
Best served chilled between 8 C to 12 C, this wine is an excellent match for salmon, lobster, oysters, light salads, refined tapas and Asian cuisine.
Remember wine flies when you’re having fun…don’t forget to stop and smell the rosé on Saturday.
