AUSTRALIAN GOOD FOOD GUIDE - Home of the Chef Hat Awards

Wine of the Week from Lure Wine Bar Restaurant.

Every good restaurant – particularly those with an AGFG Chef Hat – has a dedicated Sommelier, or Beverage Manager taking care of a carefully curated wine list to accompany the menu.

Who better to ask what’s trending in the vino world right now than these knowledgeable wine buffs? Welcome to our ‘Wine of the Week’ series, where we highlight particular wines on the radar of restaurants around the country.

Situated inside the Edge of the Bay on the iconic Freycinet Peninsula, Lure Wine Bar Restaurant on Coles Bay Road features incredible water views over Great Oyster Bay and the famous Hazards Mountains. A stone’s throw from the water expect to see local wildlife and birds with the ever-present chance of dolphins and whales, while dining in style.

Owner Josh Strudwick recommends trying Milton Vineyards 2011 Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir Limited Release, with 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. First farmed in 1826 initially for Tasmanian wool, Milton now produces fine cool climate wines from plantings of Pinot Noir, Syrah, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay grapes.

"This captivating and luxurious cool climate Tasmanian wine has complex yeasty overtones and a creamy texture, well suited to pairing with caviar and our fabulous local Freycinet Marine Farm oysters,” Josh says.

Ageing on lees for nine years has contributed to a fine persistent bead and delicious mousse; making this bubbles ideal for celebrating any occasion, or enjoying with your special someone over a romantic meal.
