In 1839, Edward John Eyre, the eminent explorer, established a base about 3kms from Streaky Bay which he used as a depot for his overland explorations to Point Bell and in 1940 to Albany.
This site became known as Eyres Waterhole, and can still be seen today, just off the road to Port Kenny.
There is a large parking bay at the edge of the road that has a rubbish bin and a shelter - the waterhole is a short walk from the parking bay.
