About Surfing on the Northern Rivers
Tucked against the Queensland boarder, the Northern Rivers region continues the wave ride, surfing a beloved Byron Bay tradition. The bay itself has ideal surfing conditions for the amateur wave rider, the most protected surf area around Byron Bay and also the closest to town. To the southern side of the Byron Bay lighthouse is Tallows Beach, which for the most part provides surfers with larger and more challenging waves. Tallows is the place to be for mobile surf schools, surfing families and most of Byron's hot young crop. If you find yourself in Ballina, know that you're in good surfing territory, with Lennox Point and the barrels of North Wall providing a day of world famous breaks.
