If it feels like craft breweries are appearing everywhere, it’s probably because they are!
Australia’s craft beer scene has exploded with the industry experiencing a 200% growth in production and sales around the country during the past 10 years.
Brewing industry publication, Brews News, says there are more than 680 breweries currently operating nationwide…plenty of choice for avid beer drinkers!
Here are four breweries to cure what ales you:
Run by Locals for Locals
Two Doors Brewing on High Street is the first wine bar and brewery in bustling Ashburton Village since the ‘dry zone’ was declared in the 1920s. Inspired by Melbourne COVID lockdowns and the lack of watering holes within walking distance, owners Andy and Rach established the brewery as a place run by locals for locals.
Named after the two doors on the front yard brewing shed, catch up with family and friends while enjoying Andy’s small batch handcrafted beers brewed on-site, such as an Anniversary Pale Ale or Batch Outta Helles German Lager.
Most Remote Aussie Brewery
Matso’s Brewery on Hamersley Street in Broome is the country’s most remote brewery. Matso’s entices guests through the doors with rustic timber floors, oak barrels and artefacts from its days as a general store, along with beautiful views over Roebuck Bay.
Sitting on the verandah with a cold alcoholic ginger beer or a tasting paddle of ginger beer, mango beer, Chango, Angry Ranga and chilli beer is highly recommended, while pondering a menu which changes seasonally and has an Asian-inspired influence.
Stylish Drinking Areas
Founded by locals, discover Brouhaha Brewery nestled among the sweeping landscapes of Maleny on the Sunshine Coast. Tucked just off Coral Street, this craft beer institution fills with a cheery crowd seeking an icy brew and catch up with friends in trendy surroundings.
With an interior designed in collaboration with May Tree Studios, Brouhaha offers a series of stylish areas, from an outdoor timber deck elevated above the tree tops to a semi-industrial interior filled with low-set tables and steel brewing vats, ideal for sipping a Maleny Lager or Hinterland Pale Ale.
Built for Good Times with Good Mates
Set on the steps of Lang Park in the heart of one of Brisbane’s most iconic streets, find Caxton Street Brewing Co. built for good times with good mates. This community-focused venue welcomes all punters, locals and visitors to the city to come in and crack a cold one, have a feed and become part of the family.
Proudly making quality, flavourful beer in-house to serve to you fresh, there is also a curated list of Australian and New Zealand wines to tempt the palate; pair a Hazy Pale Ale with a double cheeseburger and chips, or a Session Lager with smoky barbeque chicken wings.
