Aussies love spending time in the sun, yet when it comes to packing food, research reveals our frustrations. Australians’ biggest pet peeves for a beach picnic include finding sand everywhere, eating soggy sandwiches and food going brown. 

There are many ways to set the scene for the perfect beach picnic – a rug to keep sand at bay is number one, along with insect repellent and sunscreen – however, nothing is more disappointing than bland, boring and tasteless food.

Make sure to pack temptations that will survive the trip to and at the beach, use air-tight containers packed carefully in an esky for salads and sandwiches; while other dishes can be assembled onsite with a little pre-emptive planning.
