Cost of living is on the rise and new research from Skyscanner reveals 51% of Aussie travellers are prepared to sacrifice getting a coffee out at a café to save money for their holiday abroad.
Along with forgoing a daily cup of Joe, 65% of Australians are also adopting a ‘loud budgeting’ approach to travel and making a conscious effort to cut back with NAB research revealing:
•Half of Australians say they’ve cut back spending on things like eating out at restaurants (57%), treats like coffees and snacks (52%), entertainment (49%), car journeys to save on petrol (46%), holidays (45%) and food delivery services (43%).
•Those who are cutting back are saving on average $320 a month (or more than $3800 a year) and GenZ is saving even more more – around $370 per month.
A simple ‘Everywhere’ search on Skyscanner for travel reveals the many places you could go for the price of a couple of coffees. So what do sacrifices for holiday gains look like?
Here are some ideas based on $370 per month savings:
Two months of savings sacrifices – From Melbourne to Singapore for $415, Melbourne to Malaysia for $415, Sydney to the Philippines for $557, Sydney to South Korea from $679 and Brisbane to Vietnam from $477.
Four months of savings sacrifices – From Melbourne to Austria from $1447, Melbourne to Greece from $1423, Sydney to Canada from $1404, Sydney to Jordan from $1486 and Brisbane to Italy from $1198.
