Tasmanian pie company, National Pies has kicked off its Hottest Pie Hundred contest where entrants vote not on their favourite pie, but on their favourite song about pie!
In 1942 when Alfred Gough, then a young butcher’s shop apprentice, decided to set out and create Australia’s tastiest pie, he couldn’t have predicted that the family-run business he would create would not only become popular amongst Hobart locals for their juicy meat fillings and unique rectangle shape but that it would soon become a Tasmanian icon with corner stores and canteens stocking his pies!
In the last three years the rest of us Aussies, have been able to access National Pies outside of the Apple Isle from Costco through to supermarkets and retailers, and now a pie-tastic tune competition has launched as the brand continues to grow.
The official playlist, accessible through Spotify, contains 100 songs including Don McLean’s American Pie and Warrant’s Cherry Pie, to The Wiggles' version of Neil Diamond’s Porcupine Pie and even Australian country music legend Rex Dallas’ Australian Hot Meat Pie.
Yes! I can hear you – and I agree with the fact that there are even 100 songs dedicated to pie is mind-blowing - but don’t tell me that while reading this you’re not thinking ‘Hmm actually, I do feel like a pie’.
From now until January 19, fans can listen to the playlist and vote for their favourite pie tune. The competition winner as well as the most popular pie song and artist will be announced on January 23, when America celebrates National Pie Day. As for the winner, they will receive 100 National Pies and 100 cans of Tassie beer!
What are you waiting for? This Summer, whether you’re at the beach, driving to your favourite destination or having a backyard barbeque, be sure to listen to the National Pies Hottest Pie Hundred playlist and vote for your favourite pie tune for your chance to win.
