Beat Your New Year’s Eve Hangover at These Five Cafes.

By Leigh O’Connor.

What do you call a hangover from too much wine? The Wrath of Grapes!

We’ve all done it…drunk too much the night before and woken up feeling like death the next morning.

As we prepare to celebrate the end of another year and the promises a new one holds, we are sure to overindulge in some form or another.

Hangovers are the body’s way of reminding us of the hazards of taking it to the next level – diarrhea, fatigue, headache and shaking are all the classic symptoms of overindulgence.

Hangovers begin after blood alcohol levels start to fall, according to some experts, the worst symptoms occur when levels reach zero. Here are five cures for the morning after and five cafes to beat your hangover:

Hair of the dog – drinking to ease symptoms is called ‘hair of the dog’, the notion is that hangovers are a form of alcohol withdrawal, so a drink or two will ease the withdrawal.

Drink fluids – hangovers can include diarrhea, sweating or vomiting, making you even more dehydrated, even just a few sips of water might help your symptoms.

Get some carbohydrates into your system – many people forget to eat when they drink, toast and juice are a way to gently nudge levels back to normal.

Drink coffee or tea – caffeine may not have any special anti-hangover powers, but as a stimulant, it could help with grogginess.

B vitamins and zinc – people whose food and beverage consumption contains greater amounts of zinc and B vitamins have less severe hangovers.

Find next-level burgers and comfort food drawing inspiration from Canadian roots at Burger Junkie on John Street in Launceston.
