The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has announced the nominees for the Best Sustainable Seafood Brand 2025 award, recognising brands that have demonstrated exceptional leadership in promoting ocean health and sustainable seafood sourcing.
The nominees include:
•Birds Eye: A household name since the 1940s, Birds Eye has consistently shown a commitment to sustainable and responsible sourcing. During the past three years, the brand has increased its range of certified sustainable products from 80% to more than 90%, adhering to MSC or ASC standards.
•Bluewave: Known for its dedication to sustainable fishing practices, Bluewave offers a variety of MSC-certified seafood products, ensuring consumers have access to responsibly sourced options. Bluewave was launched by KB Seafood Company, the first food service brand in Australia to offer a fully sustainable range of crumbed and battered seafood.
•Coles: As a leading supermarket chain, Coles has integrated sustainable seafood sourcing into its operations, providing customers with a wide selection of MSC-labelled products and demonstrating a long-term commitment to ocean health.
•Fremantle Octopus: Specialising in premium octopus products, Fremantle Octopus emphasises sustainable harvesting methods, contributing to the preservation of marine ecosystems.
•I&J: With a focus on responsible fishing, I&J offers a range of MSC-certified seafood products, ensuring that its sourcing methods support the sustainability of fish populations.
•Skull Island: Renowned for its sustainable prawn offerings, Skull Island employs environmentally friendly practices to deliver high-quality seafood while minimising ecological impact.
Consumers are invited to participate in selecting the winner by voting for the brand that best exemplifies leadership in sustainable seafood sourcing and a commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water.
By casting a vote, participants will also enter a draw to win a $250 supermarket gift card of their choice.
Voting is open until Friday, February 14 and the winner will be announced during the Sustainable Seafood Awards Australia 2025 ceremony on Thursday, March 6. To cast your vote and learn more about the nominees, head to the MSC's official website.
