Don’t Worry, Be Hoppy – Cheers to World Beer Day on Friday, August 4!

Friends bring happiness into your life…best friends bring beer!

Wherever you are in the world, there’s always somewhere to find a cold brewski - this Friday, August 4 is the ideal time to celebrate all things frothy with World Beer Day.

Originally started in Santa Cruz, California, World Beer Day was created to show appreciation for those involved with making craft beer and the art of brewing; it quickly gained international recognition and is now celebrated in 50 countries.

Why be salty, when you can be malty? Here are five of our favourite venues that are pitcher perfect:

It’s all about cold beer, hot food and good times at Atomic Beer Project on Regent Street in Redfern. You can’t miss this local Sydney brewery and taphouse with its façade sporting vibrant graffiti-style artwork and a rustic interior vibe of steel ceiling beams, neon signage and merchandise hanging from the walls – ideal for after-work drinks with mates or family get-togethers.

Grab a classic Redfern Lager to go with Wagyu gravy-loaded fries with garlic aioli, tomato sauce, melted cheese and crispy onions, or wrap your taste buds around a Lemon Whip beer to discover a tart and ridiculously refreshing brew.

Matso’s Brewery on Hamersley Street in Broome is the country’s most remote brewery. Matso’s entices guests through the doors with rustic timber floors, oak barrels and artefacts from its days as a general store, along with beautiful views over Roebuck Bay.

Sitting on the verandah with a cold alcoholic ginger beer or a tasting paddle of five beer samples is highly recommended while pondering a menu which changes seasonally and has an Asian-inspired influence. Think dishes like crispy fried squid and nam jim sauce or sizzling crocodile ‘sisig’, steamed rice, chilli, onion, ginger, soy and a fried egg.

Find six generations of family history on the plate at Mandurah café Wood and Stone on Mandurah Terrace. Located in the heart of the city along the foreshore, this fun and funky dining destination has graffiti-style artwork on the walls, while twinkling lights and potted greenery add a chilled-out vibe ideal for lingering over a meal with family and friends.

Stop in on Friday for a frothy one such as Royal Haze Juicy IPA to go with a slice of wood-fired pizza like spicy sausage, red sauce, mozzarella, Italian broccolini and chilli; or low and slow chipotle beef brisket and smashed chat potatoes.

Two Doors Brewing on High Street is the first wine bar and brewery in bustling Ashburton Village since the ‘dry zone’ was declared in the 1920s. Inspired by Melbourne COVID lockdowns and the lack of watering holes within walking distance, owners Andy and Rach established the brewery as a place run by locals for locals.

Named after the two doors on the front yard brewing shed, catch up with family and friends while enjoying Andy’s small batch handcrafted beers brewed on-site, along with share platters and bar bites.

Putting the ale back into Daylesford, drop by Daylesford Brewing Co on Vincent Street for fare with flair to match every drop from the taproom. Inspired by traditional country styling taking subtle cues from the gold rush era, this is not your typical brewery taproom; come sample an ever-changing range of beers, along with local wines, spirits and world-class whiskeys.

On Friday, sip a Daylesford Golden Ale while delving into smoked paprika and oregano popcorn chicken and smoked aioli, or pair a West Coast IPA with twice-cooked lamb ribs, pickled green peppers and BBQ sauce.

Remember, ale you need is love and hoppy endings are the best!
