Donut Stop Believing – 5 Cafes to Celebrate National Doughnut Day

There’s something about those delicious deep-fried doughnut treats that brings a smile to everyone’s face.

National Doughnut Day on Friday, June 7 celebrates this wonderful treat and its history which goes all the way back to World War I when a doctor in the military brightened the day of wounded soldiers by handing out 8 dozen doughnuts to each man he worked on.

Did you know Americans consume more than 10 billion doughnuts every year? We all know that cops love doughnuts and can usually get a fix for free – while you will have to pay for yours, here are five cafes to get your doughnut on this Friday:

Fresh Outlook to Coffee

Bringing a fresh outlook to coffee, Bencino Café on Constitution Road in Meadowbank fulfils cravings for sweet treats and artisan brew. Rocking an eclectic vibe of white subway tiles, exposed brick and bright aqua walls, wind down at recycled timber benches while sipping a latte made from Bencino's own beans.

Those time poor can grab a coffee and Nutella or vanilla-filled custard doughnut to go from the front of the café, or perhaps linger inside over a classic breakfast of fried or scrambled eggs, bacon and sourdough toast.

Locally-loved Eatery

Find friendly, relaxed and personable service at modern café Brick Lane Espresso in the quiet leafy village-style shops of Philip Mall in West Pymble. With a fenced playground within sight, this locally-loved eatery is a hangout for parents looking to enjoy a caffeine fix while the kids let off steam, while indoors is warm and welcoming with exposed brick, subway tiles and polished concrete counters.
