Food Crimes v Guilty Pleasures? The Jury is Out!

By Marie-Antoinette Issa.

Aussies have raised eyebrows at some seriously unconventional food combinations - like a kangaroo and emu pizza, featuring our national coat of arms - but we are the first to admit to being guilty as charged.

In fact, according to Heinz two-fifths of Australians have personally witnessed a food crime, leaving them confused (28%), appalled (26%) and shocked (23%), with almost one-third of us feeling offended by food crimes (28%).

Therefore, it should come as a little surprise that Heinz [Seriously] Good Mayonnaise has humbly enlisted our help to determine which creative - and yes controversial - condiment flavour it should create next.

Do you adore your aioli with a bit of cheesy garlic bread about it? Maybe you’re mad about the idea of mixing a Margherita Pizza flavour through your mayo? In any instance, Heinz is pitching these two condiments, plus Sweet Chocolate Mayonnaise, Tangy Coriander Mayonnaise and Smokey Bacon Mayonnaise, for consideration.

Place your vote and the winning spread will be created and stocked at your local supermarket, or relegated to condiment confinement.

Food Crimes v Guilty Pleasures? The Jury is Out!

To kick off the case, Heinz [Seriously] Good Mayonnaise has enlisted multi-hyphenate creative, Flex Mami, to host the (mock) trial of the year.

"When I first heard of the five new mayo flavours, I knew I had to pull my judicial socks all the way up and get to work. As all good judges do, I spent a long time weighing up right and just plain wrong. Tangy Coriander Mayo? Straight to jail or straight to my plate? Sweet Chocolate Mayo, lock it up or let it free? The line between yuck and yum has never been so blurred, so there was simply no other,” explainsFlex Mami.

"It's going to be a tough verdict, but I’m ready to open it up to the jury. Are these fresh combinations too bold to be legal or set to become truly inspired icons of mayonnaise?”

So, how far will the nation go to plead its case for its mayo flavour in the case of The People v Controversial condiment? While the jury is currently out, we’re certain the final verdict will definitely bring about disorder in the court - or at least the kitchen!
