I recently went to a beautifully elegant Christmas dinner at a fancy hotel in the heart of the Gold Coast. The winning touch on the table was not in the elaborate and ornate decorations but in its simplicity – crisp white tablecloths and beautifully polished tableware.
More so, about a dozen white candles down the centre of varying heights and thicknesses that had previously been used and had the dripping wax to show for it. Interspersed amongst this display were native twigs and branches. I loved this. So simple. Candles and flora. Easy.
This year add a festive touch to your table by keeping it simple. We’re here to show you how:
TOOLS & MATERIALS:
Gardening scissors
White tablecloth and hessian
Native plants
Old candles
Fairy lights
Step One:
Gather all your supplies.
Step Two:
The night before you host, lay the tablecloth. Ideally white, but of course any colour will do. If you have hessian this will look fantastic down the middle of the table to rest your candles and plants on.
Hot tip: I went to a shop recently that was selling absolutely stunning sheer curtains at a massive discount. I bought them to use as a table runner. They turned out great – soft, floaty, sheer and add a touch of luxe to our table every time.
Step Three:
Add the candles, as many as you have – don’t worry how old they are, all the way down the middle of the table. You don’t even need to light them – they’ll just look pretty and festival.
Step Four:
Get your broken twigs and branches and lay them over the runner and all around the candles.
Step Five:
Once this is done, you can set the rest of the table however you like.
Voila!
